When Should I take Social Security?
Deciding when to start taking Social Security is a personal decision that
must be made based on your anticipated financial situation. Depending on your year of birth and the
amount you’ve contributed during your working lifetime, the amount of benefits available to you will
change.
While beginning to draw benefits prior to full retirement age may be an option, it will
permanently reduce your monthly benefit. Additionally, spousal benefits are reduced if filing early.
You should carefully consider the other sources of income and savings that will be
available to you.
